Drug Testing for Trucking & Transportation Employers

Distribution center yard: employer testing coordinator with clipboard speaking with operations staff and a driver in a high-visibility vest near loading docks and semi-trailers staged at doors.
Dock and yard handoffs—testing coordinated where drivers and warehouse crews already work.

DOT Drug Testing for Commercial Drivers

If you employ CDL drivers or other safety-sensitive transportation workers, federal law requires a full drug and alcohol testing program under FMCSA (49 CFR Part 40 and Part 382). This includes:

  • Pre-employment drug testing before a driver's first safety-sensitive trip
  • Random drug and alcohol testing throughout the year
  • Post-accident testing after qualifying crashes
  • Reasonable suspicion testing when a supervisor documents signs of impairment
  • Return-to-duty and follow-up testing after a violation

Why Trucking Companies Use On-Site Testing

Sending a driver to a clinic takes them off the road for 1–3 hours. For a fleet that runs on tight dispatch schedules, that's a serious operational hit.

We bring the testing to your yard, terminal, or maintenance base. Drivers get tested and get back to work. You stay compliant without losing hours.

What We Handle for Fleet Employers

  • DOT urine drug collections with proper CCF forms
  • Breath alcohol testing (BAT) for DOT alcohol programs
  • Random batch collections scheduled around dispatch windows
  • Post-accident urgent dispatch — call (219) 315-0345 for fastest response
  • Non-DOT testing for dispatchers, loaders, and shop staff on the same visit

Blended Workforces — DOT + Non-DOT on One Site

Many transportation companies have both DOT-covered drivers and non-DOT warehouse or office staff. We handle both in one coordinated visit — using the right forms and procedures for each group.

The key is clear roster information from your DER before we arrive. We never use DOT forms for non-DOT employees, or vice versa.

FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse

The FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse is a federal database that tracks drug and alcohol violations for CDL drivers. Employers must:

  • Query the Clearinghouse before a new driver's first safety-sensitive duty
  • Conduct annual queries for all current drivers
  • Report violations to the Clearinghouse

We collect the specimens — your DER, TPA, or MRO handles the reporting and queries.
